Fireplace Re-Design: 2021 Orange Tank Project Submission

As a first time Haven DIY Conference participant, I am submitting my fireplace re-design in the 2021 Orange Tank Contest!! This project is going to take my newly expanded living room to that next level & turn my home into a custom dream!

BEFORE

To achieve this project, I will remove the existing fireplace surround to update the proportions of the two flanking alcoves. I will use prebuilt base cabinets to expedite the building process & show that you can use pre-built pieces to create a custom look. Matching the dark green in my kitchen will balance out your view as the two spaces are connected. The mantel will be built with red oak wood that Home Depot now carries by the linear foot – that means I won’t have to go to one of those scary specialty wood stores that don’t let you see the product before you buy it.

I would be so excited to partner with Home Depot in this project to take advantage of the online, in store & on-app features they offer. As a DIY’er I don’t own a a vehicle big enough to carry a full sheet of plywood. Thanks to Home Depots online ordering, I can order my larger items to be delivered directly to my yard. No more begging friends to borrow their trucks!! When I am in store I can use their mobile app to scan product barcodes to compare prices & specifications. If a price sticker is missing, I don’t have to walk to a register just to find a price. The best part about Home Depot is their HUGE library of how to videos. If I’m doing something I’ve never done before, I just pull up one of those videos & replay it as many times as I’d like.

My inspiration for this project has come from hundreds of projects on Instagram – these are some of my favorites.
