Do you want to build your puppy their own custom bed?
Follow these plans to do it yourself!
You will need:
- Miter Saw
- Jig Saw
- Sander
- Pocket Hole Jig
- Wood Screws
- (1) 2″x4″ @ 10′
- (1) 1″x8″ @ 8′
- (1) Furring Strip @ 8′
- Wood Stain
- (4) Hair Pin Legs
- (1) 24″x24″ Floor Cushion
Start with a wood stud base. This base is made from a standard 2″x4″ – Use a miter saw, to cut your boards to length then use pocket holes to assemble the pieces. The center board, cut at a 45 degree angle, is designed to ensure your base stays square (at a perfect 90 degree angle).
Once you have your base assembled, it’s time to cut your finish boards. You will need one 1″x8″ @ 8′ length. If you do not have a table saw, you can purchase an additional 1″x4″ board to use for the lower sections. Your finish board can be any species of wood you would like – I recommend a harder wood like Oak or Walnut.
Use a miter saw to cut the boards to length & a jig saw to cut the rounded edges on the side rails. Your finish boards will be mitered to 45 degrees at each end. Assemble the boards to the base frame using pocket holes drilled from the base frame into the finish boards.
Cut 4 pieces at 24″ for your base slats. Use wood furring strips for an inexpensive option – these are typically 1/2″x2 1/2″
After you have all of your pieces cut & assembled, it’s time to sand, stain & install the legs. You can add your own style for legs & a floor cushion. Use the links below to see my recommendations.
